A small note from Designer:
"This beautiful Georgian English sampler, which belongs to Giulia Manfredini’s private collection, was embroidered by Maria Futter Appleton in 1831.
Maria was born Maria Futter and baptized on December 19, 1819 in Tunstead, Norfolk County, England. The baptismal record of St. Mary in Tunstead does not list a father for Maria. Mary Futter married James Appleton in 1827 and he adopted Maria.
The sampler is worked in silk threads, mainly in gold, blue and greens, but also steel blue, copper orange, dark brown, burgundy, bronze, pale yellow and cream. Framed on all sides by dense strawberry border, the Sampler is structured in bands and sections".
